Hello. I have a very odd problem which recently arose for no apparent reason. I'm trying to find the culprit but it's proving elusive.
Basically, when connecting to a PPTN VPN I can no longer connect to fastun.com:7000 (a compression web proxy, but I've tried to debug this problem by using the command 'telnet fastun.com 7000'). I can connect to it as I'm doing now when NOT using a PPTN VPN, but when I connect to one (and sending all connectivity through it via the System Prefs advanced settings), I can no longer make this specific TCP connection (other TCP connects seem unaffected).
It seems highly odd that I can telnet to this port while not on the VPN, cannot when on the VPN, and still can telnet to any other server port combination while on the VPN. This very specific denial suggests to me that perhaps this is an issue with Little Snitch. I tried "Stop Network Filter" to no avail.
The only other possible culprits in my mind are that somehow fasten.com is blocking my VPN or visa versa, however I can still connect to fastun.com:80 (their web page) and I tried various free PPTN VPNs including vpnbook.com, us.pptnvpn.org, and www.freecanadavpn.com so that seems unlikely unless fastun.com is being especially thorough or all the VPNs block port 7000.
Any suggestions at this point would be values greatly. I've done some network sysadmin and I'm lost what to try next other than a complete OS reinstall.
