I think we'd all agree that the initial few days is painful. After a week or so of answering those pesky dialogs, though, the only messages I really get are about dubious email content, which is pretty much how it should be. Now it only takes an occasional clean-up of pending rules to keep things in order.
One thing I've found particularly useful for my situation is profiles (especially now that, in the beta, automatic switching based on network connection is implemented -- previously I had to use ControlPlane + a recorded Automator script to do that!). That's invaluable when I'm using my laptop in the office, as I have a number of rules to deny traffic to or from various services (such as BitTorrent, Twitter or Facebook) that I either forgot to turn off or just can't easily turn off, that I don't mind letting through when I'm at home. While my office firewall would block some of that anyway, as long as it's getting that far it can still get me in trouble for attempting to violate IT policy
